Single Line of Pixels
The line scan cameras works by instituting one or more pixel line of sensors which during the exposure time gathers a photoelectric charge that is proportional to the object light being imaged onto that pixel line. When the camera exposure time ends, the photoelectric charges in the entire pixel row are relocated substantially to a readout register. To produce camera output, the readout register performs amplification, correction and digitisation of the pixel charges after shifting them. This shifting of pixel charges is performed in parallel while next pixel row is being exposed. The term line rate is used to denote the maximum rate between the readout and exposure timings usually stated in kilohertz (kHz).
